Slide 25
The Prius On the Road
-
The ride seemed rather firm initially, but later was completely unobtrusive.
-
The car felt splendidly taut, as is to be expected, since it is a notchback
(which is stiffer than a hatchback).
-
The steering seemed light and twitchy initially, but I soon adapted. However,
the straight line stability is not the best.
-
The versatile audio system, with radio, cassette and (optionally 6) CDs,
contributes to relaxed driving.
-
The starting and stopping of the engine, controlled by the THS, is almost
indetectable.
-
The engine is very quiet when cruising, but when accelerating, it can be
heard to speed up before the car.
-
The acceleration at full throttle (and with motor assist) is impressive,
helped by the absence of gear changes.
-
There is some road noise on certain surfaces, perhaps due to the low rolling
resistance tyres.
-
The brakes are very light, and rather non-linear, due to the regenerative
action, but I soon adapted.
-
The smooth progress and the outstanding fuel economy (shown on the display)
are very satisfying.
